OM Lunar Observing Session

OM Dark Sky Park & Observatory is an International Dark Sky Park and observatory located in Davagh Forest in the Sperrin Mountains, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It’s one of the officially designated dark-sky places recognised by the International Dark-Sky Association — meaning the area has exceptionally low light pollution and superb natural night skies ideal for astronomy and astrophotography. The site blends astronomy with archaeology, as it’s close to the ancient Beaghmore Stone Circles.

On March 28th join OM for one of our monthly Lunar Observing Sessions. When skies are clear we will observe the partially lit Moon using our range of telescopes and binoculars. You will also visit our Observatory where we use our 14-inch Meade telescope and ZWO ASI2600MC imaging system to display a superb live view of the lunar surface. Always an enjoyable evening for all levels of astronomy enthusiasts – far away from light pollution in Northern Ireland’s only accredited dark sky location.

Please be aware that observing is weather dependent. In the event that live observing isn’t possible, there will be alternative, lunar-themed demonstrations and activities in the observatory.

Lunar Observing Session 8pm-9:30pm. £12.00

Entry:  £10.00 by booking only HERE

If observing is not possible due to weather our alternative programme includes:

• A brief history of the Moon and its cultural significance.

• A deep dive into NASA’s lunar image archive.

• Exploring lunar alignments of Irish neolithic stone sites, such as Beaghmore Stone Circles.

• Discussion of the latest planned Lunar missions.
