My Astrophotography Journey: Under Irish Skies

Adrian Nolan is a native of Cork, now living in County Galway. He has been passionate about photography for over 12 years, with a particular focus on biodiversity and astrophotography. In 2023, Adrian was the prize winner of the national Teagasc Forestry Development Forest Photography Competition, and last year he was shortlisted in the prestigious DIAS astrophotography competition Reach for the Stars with his striking image of the aurora over Pine Island in Connemara.

In his talk, Adrian asks the simple question many of us have thought at some point: “Ever looked up at the night sky and thought, ‘I could totally take a picture of that’?”
His answer? Turns out… if I can do it, anyone can!

Join Adrian on the 24th of March at 6pm in Galway City Library as he shares the highs and lows of his astrophotography journey — from accidental tripod kicks to moments of genuine fear in the deepest, darkest parts of Connemara — and how curiosity, patience, and a love of the night sky turned into unforgettable images.
