Astrophotography Talk with Liam Reddal

Ballyogan Library

Join us at the newly opened Ballyogan Library, a vibrant public space transformed into a colourful, inclusive hub supporting learning, creativity, and community connection, for an inspiring talk on astronomy and astrophotography by Liam Reddal.

Liam is an astrophotographer from Cherrywood, located on the Dublin–Wicklow border. In this talk, he will share how his journey began with a fascination for astronomy before evolving into photography and, ultimately, astrophotography.

In 2025, Liam won the prestigious “Back on Earth – Landmark” category of the Reach for the Stars Astrophotography Competition for his striking image “The Voyager”, featuring the Voyager statue in Laytown, Co. Meath. Using a fisheye lens and a long exposure, he captured the statue beneath the night sky, illuminated by subtle streetlamp light—blending art, astronomy, and place.

This talk is ideal for beginners, covering everything from basic setups using a tripod and DSLR to more advanced equipment such as telescopes and mounts. Liam will also discuss how he plans his shoots, the use of tools like PhotoPills, the equipment involved, and the types of images that can be achieved with careful preparation and creativity.
