“Introduction to Astronomy”

On Tuesday, March 24th, 2026, at 7:00 pm, the Naas Amateur Astronomy Society (NAAS) will host the first of two essential events for anyone interested in the Cosmos. The meeting will take place in The Chamber on the Top Floor of the Naas Library (W91 E1RT).

Society member Ciarán O’Callaghan will deliver the headline presentation, “Introduction to Astronomy” This talk is specifically designed for beginners and those looking to deepen their foundational knowledge. It will likely cover concepts such as navigating the night sky, understanding cosmic structures (from planets to distant galaxies like the Andromeda Galaxy, pictured on the poster), and the basics of observation.

To complement the talk, several powerful telescopes belonging to society members will be set up in the Chamber.  This provides a unique hands-on opportunity for attendees to examine the different types of telescopes (e.g., reflectors, refractors) and receive expert advice on the practical use and setup of the equipment as well as pricing, features, and functionality with experienced astronomers to help decide which equipment might be best suited for their own observational goals. This event offers a complete package, combining educational insight with practical, technical guidance. The event starts at 7pm but attendees are encouraged to arrive on time.

Venue: Naas Library

Date/Time: Tuesday 24th March 2026 @ 7:00pm
