Earths Companion: The Moon

Earths Companion: The Moon
Function Room at Henry Downes Public House, Thomas Street, Waterford, X91 P959
“Earth’s Companion: The Moon” By John Hackett, Chairperson of South East Astronomy Club at Bunclody Library.
In this talk John will look at the origins, long history, geology and geography of the Moon. Also its influence on the Earth and in the light of the Artemis 2 mission, future long term exploration.”
The Moon is Earth’s quiet constant—ancient, steady, and deeply influential. Its gravity moves entire oceans, steadies the planet’s tilt, and shapes rhythms we barely notice but rely on every day. Scarred by impacts and untouched by weather, it holds a memory of the early solar system that Earth itself has long erased. More than a symbol or a backdrop, the Moon is a partner in Earth’s long survival—and a reminder that even silent companions can matter immensely. In his talk John will look at its origins, long history, geology, geography, influence on Earth and exploration.
