Join Jason Fallon of Midlands Astronomy Club for a  “virtual tour” of the end of our cosmic neighborhood is a fascinating (and slightly terrifying) deep dive into the far future.

Here is what that journey usually covers:

Phase 1: The Boiling of the Oceans: Earth turns into a  scorched, pressurized pressure cooker.

Phase 2: The Red Giant Expansion: As the Sun runs out of hydrogen fuel in its core, it will begin burning helium and swell outward.

Phase 3: The Planetary Nebula: The Sun will become unstable and pulsate, blowing its outer layers of gas into space.

Phase 4: The White Dwarf & The Eternal Cold

Midlands Astronomy Club was founded in 1986 as the Tullamore Astronomical Society, in recent years they have become  one of the most active astronomy clubs in Ireland with bi-monthly outreach talks at Tullamore library and local schools. They also host COSMOS, Ireland’s longest running Star Party.
