Venus is back in our sky as the Evening Star, shining bright in the western sky just after sunset. Join us at the ancient Beaghmore Stone Circles to glimpse our neighbour planet as the sun sets, with our binoculars and telescopes at the ready. Enjoy the peaceful, natural surroundings of the Sperrin Mountains, far way from light pollution within Northern Ireland’s only accredited dark sky.

If weather conditions are poor we will instead chat through Irish and Welsh myths about Venus at our Observatory. This event is open to all ages and abilities and designed to be a relaxed, sociable evening for all levels of interest. Please dress warm and bring a torch, preferably with red light. Observing is weather dependent.

In March 2026, Venus is becoming an evening object again after its early-January conjunction with the Sun. It starts the month low and hard to see just after sunset, but visibility improves through March. A notable event is the Venus–Saturn close pairing around 8 March, which makes spotting Venus easier as they linger together in the western twilight. As March progresses, Venus moves farther from the Sun in the sky and climbs a bit higher in the evening twilight, making it gradually easier to see after sunset each week. By mid-to-late March, you’ll find Venus visible shortly after sunset toward the western horizon — though still relatively low and best observed soon after sundown during clear conditions.

Time: 7pm to 8pm

Entry Fee: £6.00.
